WARNING: Tape Backup Problem

Please be aware of a problem that has been identified with Arcsolo tape back software.  After restoring images that were backed up by Arcsolo with tape data compression turned on, random images cannot be displayed.  This is a problem with the Arcsolo compression algorithm.  To prevent this problem, be sure that tape compression is turned off.

Actually, since TIFF images are already compressed, tape compression will not save any space so, regardless of the tape backup product you use, we recommend that when backing up images, tape compression be turned off!

One more thing - keep running those tape backups!  Rotate tapes, introduce new tapes to replaces ones that have been in use for a while and periodically restore a file to be sure your tape backup software is working correctly.
