New Enhancements in halFILE version 2.0

General Features

Complete 32-bit application.
Migrates all Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server or ODBC-compliant database for better scalability.
Sizable windows with position recall. In other words, you size and place the image window wherever you want it, separately from the other windows. This also helps Associated Document support as you can have the Word doc or whatever, beside your Search or Index screens.
The small-footprint halFILE Manager displays the halFILE menus and launch programs as needed. Also the menu was enhanced to remove the little-used Quick Copy and added icons for Import, Basket Status, Key Verify and Exit.
Multiple-monitor support. For example, you can configure the system to place the image window on a dedicated monitor.
Better on-line help files using html help. Also Help menu option to go to halfile.com where there is now a growing database of Tech Support issues and resolutions.

Security Features

Network Integrated security option. The halFILE user id is derived from the Network Login. So, the user does not have to re-login to halFILE every time they go into the application.
SQL Server Integrated security option. The SQL Server user id is derived from the Network Login.
More user security options including rights for deleting documents and modifying and annotating images.

Imaging/Scanning Features

Unlike prior versions, the printer for image printing can be changed at any time (because we are using the Imaging for Windows printer driver). See Windows XP Note below.
Image Annotations. You can annotate halFILE images with a variety of objects including highlighter, text, notes, and stamps.
Color image support.
TWAIN scanner driver support which includes scan and FTP and scan and e-mail comment line options.
Both Kofax and TWAIN scanner interfaces now support inverting the image to reverse black and white.
Improved printer driver for faster, more reliable printing. We now use the Imaging for Windows printer driver instead of the Kofax printer driver. **
Since Windows XP does not include Imaging for Windows components, you must either purchase and install Imaging Professional for Windows or use the hal Systems-supplied Kofax-based image viewer.

Index Features

Index menu selection option that can integrate Index with an e.halFILE search. You can also use this menu to run external programs.
With Imaging for Windows Professional Edition, halFILE provides seamless "real-time" Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This feature lets you draw a box around an area of the image, press a key sequence and the program converts that portion of the image to text and fills in the current index field.

Search Features

Color Coded hit list lines based on some designated value. For example, Plat Maps could appear in blue on the hit list.

Import Features

Installation Features

Single install reduces the time to bring up new client workstations. This installs the SQL Server driver, Print to halFILE feature, Send to halFILE feature and halFILE Mail client in one install.
ODBC File Data Source support for easier client installation since data source setup is not required on each station. When setting up a new database, you build a File Data Source one time. For new stations, new ODBC setup is required.
New Auto Archive feature that bypasses the CD Stage Area procedure completely, yet still manages the image drive so CDs could still be made for backup if desired. This feature will also save the database information automatically.
