To CD or not CD
Advantages of the CD-ROM
frmat for database and images
Several of our clients are now placing document images onto CD-ROM.
This offers several clear advantages as your database of images and records
grows. First, CD-ROM drives are priced inexpensively and, while the
speed of the drives continues to improve, the price continues to fall.
Secondly, CD-ROM juke box systems can place dozens of CD-ROM disks on-line
without having to swap disks. Third, CD-ROM provides a simple and
inexpensive means of creating a permanent back up of your images as well
as a way to duplicate the images for use on another system (such as a laptop
computer). Fourth, once the CD-ROM is in place, you can use it for
not only storing images, but also to run the myriad of CD-ROM titles now
available. These titles include legal research tools, encyclopedias, mailing
lists, games and much more.
Here's how to integrate a CD-ROM into halFILE. First, ask us to configure
the right CD-ROM system for your specific needs. Then, we will set you
up on a procedure where images are sent to our Dallas office via tape,
disk, or optical cartridges. We will produce as many CD-ROM copies
of the images as you need. When you get back the CD-ROM, you put it into
the CD-ROM and you are ready to go! The original media (tape, disk,
or optical cartridges) can be stored off-site as a backup. We can
even show you how to save your plant database to the CD-ROM as solid protection
against loss of data! Call Dave Percival or Karen Duncan in our Dallas
office (214-386-4500) for more information about CD-ROM. The time
is now!!
