The Fiscal Accounting Division of the Texas Department of Health in Austin, Texas is the latest organization to win hal’s Million Image Award for scanning over one million images into halFILE. Kevin Hutchinson of the Fiscal Department was presented with a handsome plaque recognizing the efforts of the department.
Since November of 1996, every voucher that goes through the department has been scanned using one of two Bell+Howell 6338 duplex scanners. Documents are automatically indexed using a bar code that is placed on the first page during the voucher process. Images are placed onto CD and into a Pioneer 500 CD Jukebox, then shared across the network by  hundreds of users, some as far away as El Paso. The database backbone of the system is a dedicated Microsoft SQL Server. Congratulations, Fiscal Accounting, on a job well done!
